Heated Exchange in Karnataka Assembly Over CBI Probe Withdrawal
The Karnataka Legislative Assembly witnessed a heated exchange between the BJP-JD(S) combined Opposition and the ruling Congress over the withdrawal of consent for a CBI probe into disproportionate assets cases against Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar. The Opposition sought permission from Speaker U.T. Khader to debate the issue through an adjournment motion, but the Speaker denied permission, citing that the matter is subjudice and pertains to an individual.
Leader of the Opposition R. Ashok expressed concern over the withdrawal of consent, arguing that the government should have left the decision to the courts. The Opposition criticized the State Cabinet’s prioritization of the issue, and Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao defended the withdrawal, stating it was done due to political vendetta by the erstwhile BJP government.
