Srinagar Shivers as Temperature Plummets to -4.6°C
The winter chill tightened its grip on Srinagar as the city experienced its coldest night of the season, recording a minimum temperature of minus 4.6 degrees Celsius on Saturday. Locals were observed lighting small fires around water pipes in an effort to prevent freezing, particularly affecting drinking water pipes. Early risers navigated the frigid morning wrapped in layers of woolens, donning essential caps and mufflers alongside the traditional winter attire known as the ‘Pheran.’
The Meteorological Department reported that besides Srinagar, Gulmarg recorded minus 4.2 and Pahalgam minus 5 as the lowest temperatures for the night. Meanwhile, in the Ladakh region, Leh experienced a bone-chilling minus 11.7, Kargil minus 8.8, and Drass minus 11. Jammu division faced milder temperatures, with Jammu city at 8.1, Katra 8, Batote 2.6, Bhaderwah 0.5, and Banihal at minus 0.8 degrees Celsius.
