Residents in South Chennai Confront Contaminated Water and Damages After Cyclone Michaung
As floodwaters recede in south Chennai neighborhoods like Madipakkam, Velachery, and Injambakkam, residents are grappling with the aftermath of Cyclone Michaung. The receding waters reveal the extent of damages, with residents picking up the pieces of their lives. In areas like Kubera Nagar in Madipakkam, residents are finding that homes on the ground floor were completely inundated, causing damage to valuable documents, certificates, and personal belongings.
While streets are now drained, vacant lands remain inundated, posing challenges for residents. Parts of Injambakkam are still submerged, making transportation difficult and raising concerns about potential hazards like snakes in the water. In Velachery, where rescue boats were recently in use, electricity is returning, but residents face water contamination issues. The recovery process is underway, but challenges persist for those affected by the cyclone and subsequent floods.
