TNPCB Finds Oil Mixed with Rainwater in Ennore Creek Oil Leak Investigation
The Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) inspected the Ennore Creek area to investigate the recent oil leak. According to their findings, when water was pumped out of the inundated premises of Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited (CPCL), the oily matter was mixed with rainwater flowing through the stormwater drain.
Traces of oil were observed in the Buckingham Canal, mainly on the banks, originating from the stormwater drain in the Manali industrial area. Another trace was identified upstream of CPCL, originating from the Kodungaiyur and Tondiarpet areas, involving Indian Oil Corporation Limited, the Tondiarpet terminal, and a container terminal. The TNPCB recommends removing stagnated water containing oil to prevent further traces in the Buckingham Canal.
