Boost for Karnataka Agriculture: Centre Set to Approve 167 Irrigation Projects Worth Rs 484 Crore

Union Minister Pralhad Joshi announced on Friday that the Centre is on the verge of approving 167 irrigation projects in Karnataka, amounting to Rs 484 crore. Joshi, who holds the portfolios of Union Mine, Coal, and Parliamentary Affairs, revealed that he had met with Union Minister for Jal Shakthi, Gajendra Singh Shekawat, to seek approval for these projects under the Prime Minister Krishi Sinchayee Project.

The objective is to minimize irrigation costs, bring more land under irrigation, and optimize water utilization for farming. Stressing the urgency, Joshi highlighted that the flood-prone areas of north Karnataka could significantly benefit from these projects, as they aim to harness floodwater for agricultural purposes.

He emphasized the Modi government’s commitment to the welfare of the farming community, asserting that the projects would be a boon for farmers in the region. Joshi expressed confidence that the projects would soon receive the necessary consent, facilitating enhanced irrigation capabilities in Karnataka.
