Comprehensive Employment Analysis for Chennai’s Development: CMDA Nears Completion of Third Master Plan Study
The Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) is on the verge of completing a comprehensive study aimed at analyzing the spatial distribution of employment and income categories within the expanded Chennai Metropolitan Area (CMA), covering 5,904 sq. km. Initiated on April 1, the 32-week assignment seeks to identify spatial patterns of jobs and income distribution, encompassing both formal and informal sectors.
The study’s objectives extend beyond commercial sectors to include various industries, aiding in the identification of priority areas and investment zones. Chennai, contributing 8% to the state’s income, boasts manufacturing hubs in peripheral areas like Orgadam and Sriperumbudur, while software service clusters have emerged along the IT corridor.
The study employs statistical tools to discern place-specific economic activities, providing crucial insights to optimize land usage and allocate resources effectively for sustainable development.
