Trinamool Congress Legislator Arrested in West Bengal Seeks Bail
Jiban Krishna Saha, the Trinamool Congress legislator representing the Barwan Assembly constituency in Murshidabad district, West Bengal, has been behind bars for the past six months due to his alleged involvement in a multi-crore cash-for-school-job case. Recently, he approached the Supreme Court with a bail application that has been admitted by the apex court.
A notice has been sent to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which arrested Saha in April. The CBI has been instructed by the Supreme Court to file its affidavit in the case within the next three weeks, after which the matter will be scheduled for a hearing. Saha has been detained at the Presidency Central Correctional Home in South Kolkata. The Trinamool Congress’ district leadership has distanced itself from this legal matter and refrained from commenting on it, emphasizing that it’s entirely a legal issue.
