Tamil Nadu Forms Committee to Audit Maternal Deaths Amid Controversy
The Tamil Nadu Health Department has established a state-level committee to audit maternal deaths, following allegations and controversy surrounding two such cases. This committee, led by Shilpa Prabhakar Satish, the Mission Director of the National Health Mission, aims to investigate and address the concerns raised by gynecologists regarding these maternal fatalities.
The gynecologists assert that these deaths were due to cardiac issues rather than gynecological problems. The allegations prompted protests by doctors and calls for the suspension of the Chief Health Officer, Vinoth Kumar. The newly formed committee will provide a comprehensive report on the matter, shedding light on the allegations against the Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH) in Madurai.
