Breakthrough Achieved in Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Project as First Mountain Tunnel Completed
The National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) has achieved a significant milestone in the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail project with the completion of the first mountain tunnel. This tunnel, located near Zaroli village in Gujarat’s Valsad district, spans 350 meters in length, with a diameter of 12.6 meters and a height of 10.25 meters.
It is designed to accommodate two tracks and was constructed using the New Austrian Tunnelling Method (NATM). The Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Project, which started in 2017, is scheduled for completion by 2026 and includes a total of seven tunnels constructed using the NATM method.
