Goa Forward Party Demands Appointment of New Chairman for Human Rights Commission
The Goa Forward Party (GFP) has called for the appointment of a new chairman for the Goa Human Rights Commission (GHRC), citing over 500 pending cases. The party warned that if the government failed to take action, it would intensify its efforts to address the issue. The GHRC has been non-functional since the end of former chairperson Justice Utkarsh Bakre’s term in February 2023.
GFP General Secretary Durgadas Kamat expressed concern over the increasing number of human rights violations in the state and the mounting caseload. The party called on the government to prioritize people’s welfare and fill the vacant position promptly.
