Tamil Nadu Empowers District Officers with ₹1 Crore for TB Drug Procurement Amid Stock Concerns

Amid reports of TB drug stockouts in the country, Tamil Nadu has allocated over ₹1 crore to district tuberculosis officers to procure TB medicines locally through medical shops. This move is aimed at ensuring the availability of drugs for both drug-sensitive and drug-resistant TB patients. At present, the state has a drug stock that can last for two months, and the government is closely monitoring the situation.

Additionally, the Tamil Nadu Medical Services Corporation is also procuring the necessary TB drugs to meet the demand, with a focus on drug-resistant TB, including in the private sector. These proactive measures were initiated two months ago in anticipation of potential drug shortages.
