Egypt’s President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi Announces Bid for Third Term in Office
Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi has declared his intention to seek a third term in the upcoming presidential elections scheduled for December. Sisi, who took office in 2014 following the 2013 coup, made the announcement on Monday, calling on Egyptians to participate in the elections. The election is set to take place from December 10 to 12, with voting for Egyptians abroad held from December 1 to 3.
Registration for candidates will be open from Thursday through October 14. Approximately 65 million Egyptians are eligible to vote, and Sisi previously won presidential elections in 2014 and 2018. Constitutional amendments in 2019 extended the presidential term to six years and allowed him to run for a third term.
