Road Caves in T. Nagar due to Damaged Sewer Pipes, Restoration Underway
A section of Dr. Nair Road in T. Nagar, Chennai, caved in on a government holiday morning due to damage to old sewer pipelines underneath the road. The Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board quickly responded by barricading the area, diverting the sewer load to an alternate line, and working on restoring the damaged section.
The affected pipeline, aged over two to three decades, suffered from corrosion, leading to the road’s subsidence. While repairs to the 150-meter stretch are expected to be completed by Friday night, permanent measures are being planned to prevent similar incidents, including the construction of a roadside pumping station and sewage line replacements.
