Chennai Corporation Sets Deadline for Roadworks Ahead of Monsoon
The Greater Chennai Corporation has issued a directive to contractors to complete the repair and relaying of bad roads, including fixing potholes, by October 10 in preparation for the northeast monsoon. Approximately 600 roads are expected to undergo repairs within the next 15 days. Corporation Commissioner J. Radhakrishnan held a meeting with contractors to discuss the issues causing delays in the work and assured them of quick bill settlements.
The Corporation warned that contractors failing to meet the deadline would face blacklisting. Over 500 roads with potholes have been identified in the city, and each of the 40 contractors is expected to repair two roads daily. Of the 500 orders issued for 10,000 roads, 2,700 have been relaid so far, with 90 out of 140 bus route roads also repaired. The remaining 50 bus route roads will be addressed ahead of the monsoon.
