Electric Bus Catches Fire in Chennai After Collision on National Highway
An electric bus bound for Bengaluru caught fire near Poonamallee on the Chennai-Bengaluru National Highway following a collision with another bus. The incident transpired when the electric bus driver had to abruptly apply the brakes to avoid a collision with a government-run bus traveling ahead. Subsequently, a private bus carrying 26 passengers collided with the electric bus from behind, leading to the ignition of the electric bus’s battery and a subsequent fire.
Fortunately, all passengers and crew members from both buses were safely evacuated, and no injuries were reported. Fire and Rescue Services personnel responded to the scene to manage the situation and extinguish the blaze. Traffic Investigation Police in Poonamallee have registered a case in connection with the incident, which temporarily disrupted traffic on the national highway.
