South Korea, China, and Japan Plan High-Level Meeting for Trilateral Cooperation Discussion
South Korea, China, and Japan are preparing to convene a high-level meeting in Seoul on September 26 to deliberate on various aspects of their trilateral cooperation, including the possibility of organizing a summit among their leaders. The meeting will bring together South Korean Deputy Foreign Minister Chung Byung-won, Japan’s Senior Deputy Foreign Minister Takehiro Funakoshi, and China’s Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs Nong Rong.
The agenda includes discussions on the state and future trajectory of cooperation between the three nations, as well as considerations for a trilateral summit that has been on hold since 2019. This initiative signals a potential revival of trilateral diplomacy, which had been interrupted due to disputes and the pandemic, with foreign ministerial talks to coordinate a summit date on the horizon.
