Tomato Prices Plummet in Andhra Pradesh, Leading to Farmer Protests

Farmers in Andhra Pradesh’s Kurnool and Nandyal districts are facing a crisis as the price of tomatoes has crashed to just Rs 3 per kilogram in the wholesale market. Just a few days ago, tomatoes were being sold for Rs 150 to Rs 200 per kilogram. Faced with such a drastic drop in prices, farmers have resorted to dumping their tomato produce on roads and open areas.

Heavy rains have led to increased tomato production, resulting in the oversupply and subsequent price crash. This situation stands in stark contrast to July and August when some farmers in the region became millionaires due to record-high tomato prices, with one farmer earning Rs 4 crore in just 45 days.
