Archaeological Discovery: Ancient Arch Drain Unearthed During Stormwater Drain Work in Perambur Barracks Road
During the excavation for stormwater drain work on Perambur Barracks Road, an unexpected archaeological discovery emerged—a well-preserved, massive arch-type drain that harks back to historical drainage systems. Unlike typical civic excavations, this find offers a unique glimpse into the past. The intact and substantial arch drain appears to follow a different route from the ongoing construction of the modern stormwater drain.
Officials from the Greater Chennai Corporation have announced that the ancient arch-type drain will remain untouched and continue to function as an additional rainwater-carrying conduit. Cleaning efforts will be conducted in areas where the old stormwater drain has been exposed.
