Over 2,500 Ukrainians Freed in Russia-Ukraine War Prisoner Exchanges
In the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, a total of 2,598 Ukrainian individuals who were taken captive have been released through prisoner exchanges. Ukraine has executed 48 such exchanges with Russia since the conflict’s inception, according to Andriy Yusov, a spokesperson for Ukraine’s military intelligence.
Remarkably, these swaps are occurring amid active conflict, which Yusov described as an “unprecedented situation.” Although the Geneva Conventions don’t explicitly stipulate exchanges during ongoing hostilities, preparations for another prisoner exchange between the two countries are currently in progress.
