IIT Hyderabad Student Dies by Suicide, Second Incident in Less Than a Month

Tragedy struck Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Hyderabad once again as a 21-year-old M.Tech student, Mamitha Nayak, was found hanging in her hostel room on Monday night. Hailing from Odisha, she had recently joined the institution.

This incident marks the second suicide within a month at IIT Hyderabad. The authorities were alerted by Nayak’s classmates who found her body. A suicide note was discovered, in which she attributed her extreme step to mental stress.

This follows the earlier suicide of D. Karthik, a second-year B.Tech student, who drowned in the sea in Visakhapatnam due to academic pressure and backlog-related depression.
