Piped Water Supply Coming Soon to Merged Areas of Chennai

Residents of some merged areas in Chennai can look forward to receiving piped water supply by the end of this year, as long-pending projects are finally nearing completion. The Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (Metrowater) is currently engaged in establishing a comprehensive water supply network in Madhavaram, Sholinganallur, Semmencheri, and Karapakkam.

The project is being executed in six packages in Madhavaram, with an estimated cost of ₹70.28 crore. Upon completion of the scheme, Metrowater aims to provide 14,066 water connections, benefiting nearly 3.83 lakh residents in these areas. Officials have stated that a major portion of the work in Madhavaram is expected to be finished by November, and the pipeline network is currently undergoing a trial run to detect and rectify any potential leaks.

The infrastructure being developed will have a capacity of 10.7 million liters per day, and a total of 167.6 km of pipelines have been laid in the Madhavaram zone, bringing the promise of improved water access and distribution to the merged areas.
