Chennai Police Arrest Murder Accused Hiding in Sri Lanka
In a significant development, the Greater Chennai Police apprehended a 47-year-old man, Taufeeq Ameed, who had been hiding in Sri Lanka after being allegedly involved in murder, possession of explosives, and human trafficking within the city. The arrest comes after a case was registered at the North Beach police station in 2008, where three out of the five accused were nabbed for conspiring to incite communal riots.
During the investigation, incriminating DVDs/CDs were seized from them. Taufeeq Ameed, a resident of Adirampattinam in Thanjavur district, had multiple warrants against him, as he was wanted in several cases across Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Mumbai. In 2021, he jumped bail, leading to a non-bailable warrant issued by the court. Finally, as he landed at the airport from Colombo, he was promptly arrested by the Chennai Police.
