Tamil film
actor. Son
of actor
Sivakumar,[1]
he starred
in several
films, such
as Nandha,
Kaakha
Kaakha,
Ghajini,
Perazhagan,
Pithamagan
and Vaaranam
Aayiram.
During his
career, he
has won
three Tamil
Nadu State
Film Awards
and two
Filmfare
Awards. He
became a
film
distributor
after
opening
Studio
Green, which
distributed
several of
his earlier
films. He
married
actress
Jyothika in
2006, after
being
engaged for
several
years.

was born to

Sivakumar
and his wife
Lakshmi. He
is the
eldest of
three
children,
his younger
brother is
actor
Karthik
Sivakumar
and a
younger
sister named
Brindha
Sivakumar.
He
attended St.
Bede's
School in
Chennai and
graduated
from Loyola
College with
a Bachelor
of Commerce
degree. He
worked for a
few years in
the garment
industry
before
entering
into the
film
industry.

Filmdom
Surya
debuted in
the 1997
film
Nerrukku Ner.
Later he
starred in
Friends and
Nandha, for
which he
received a
Tamil Nadu
State Film
Award for
Best Actor.
Surya's
next venture
was with
Vikraman in
the movie
Unnai
Ninaithu
which was
followed by
Mounam
Pesiyadhe.
Kaaka Kaaka,
a movie
about the
life of a
police
officer,
grossed
almost 100
million at
the box

Pithamagan,
in which
Surya
was played a
happy-go-lucky
village
crook in a
comedic role
for which he
received a
Filmfare
Best
Supporting
Actor Award.
In the movie
Perazhagan,
Surya
acted in two
roles, one
as a boxer
and the
other as a
handicapped
but a
confident
phone booth
keeper for
which he
received a
Filmfare
Award for
Best Actor.
His role in
Aayitha
Ezhuthu was
based on
George
Reddy, a
student
leader in
Hyderabad
during the
80's.
In 2005,
Suya
appeared in
Aaru and
Ghajini and
set up a
production
company
called
Studio Green
which
distributed
the movie in
the Chennai
district.
Surya
played a
short term
memory loss
patient in
Ghajini.
Surya's
2006 release
was N.
Krishna's
Sillunu Oru
Kaadhal. He
acted
opposite his
real-life
partner
Jyothika
Saravanan in
the film. In
2007,
Surya's
solitary
release was
Vel. He
later
appered in
Vaaranam Aayiram,
another
venture with
Gautham
Menon,
released on
November 14,
2008.
Surya's
next film is
Ayan
directed by
K. V. Anand,
and released
on April
3rd.
Following
Ayan,
Surya
has been
cast in
Aadhavan
directed by
K. S.
Ravikumar,
followed by
Singam
directed by
Hari.
Suryar
will also be
acting in a
film titled
Mugamoodi,
which is
expected to
be a
superhero
film. He is
also acting
in his debut
Hindi movie
Rakta
Charitthra,
which is
directed by
Ram Gopal
Varma.
