The young Rakesh Lakshman breathed classicism in content with his flute
at the 32ft Anjaneya Temple at Nanganallur for the Hanumanth Jayanthi Music
festival. After warming up with Karunimpa, sahane varnam he weaved a web of
magic with the fast paced Nenarunchinanu Malavi by Thyagaraja.

His
brief essay of Kiravani for Ambavani had a spiritual flavour. The flautist's
presentation of Amirtha Varshini had a sowkhya bhavam and the kriti
sudhamayee was creatively presented and the swara passages was impressive.
The evergreen classic in Abheri Nagomonu with roller coaster swaras added
luster to the recital.
Kathi Kurichi Balakrishnan on violin was
appealing and played in synchrony with the flautist. Bhen Cottah Rajamani on
Mridangam played with virtousity. Chandrasekar on Kanjira delved deeply into
rythymic inputs. The tani of Rajamani and Chandrasekar had resonant beats
and took the centre stage.
