A veritable kaleidoscope of events from
scriptures unfolded at a brisk pace at Narada Gana sabha. The lotus eyed Uma
Ramesh whose tryst with bharatanatyam started almost three decades back held
the audience captive with eloquent style and excellent foot work.

She started her recital with Thodaya mangalam -Ragamalika ,talamalika , a
composition of Annamacharya . She captured the quintessence of Ramayana
through her vivid choreography. All the characters in the epic were brought
to life by Uma .Her detailing of Nayika nayaka bhavam and her yearning for
the lord was exemplary as she was able to showcase the emotions perfectly.
The love torn Nayika wants to be united with the son of King Durairaja of
Brahmapuri. Set in the raga Huseni Uma depicted this varnam with bhavam and
elegance.

The evergreen classic Jagadodharana by Purandaradasar was picturised with
effervescence. Uma depicted the entire gamut of emotions revealing the
motherly love of Yasodha towards Krishna with panache. Her innocent face
while showcasing Krishna s frivolity was attractive.
In the following piece -Kavadichindu by Annamalai Reddiar, we were able
to visualize Muruga and all his attributes through her poignant portrayal.
She breathed life into Pazhani Shanmuga velu unda .
She was ably supported by Neela Sukanya (Nattuvangam ) , Girija Ramaswamy
( vocal) , Vijayaraghavan( mridangam ) and T K Padmanabhan( violin).
