At the Mylapore Fine Arts Club...
Date : 25/12/2008.
Venue : Mylapore
Fine Arts Club.
Time : 3.00 PM
On the dais: Nisha Rajagopal - Gnanasundaram -
Sivakumar
The concert began with neeve nannu - an impressive kamboji varnam of
kuppuswamy iyer and continued with karpaga manohara - malayamaarutham
paalimpa raava - aarabi elaborate husseni, kanjadhalaaya dhakshi(kamalamanohari)
Ninne (Simhendra madhyamam)and ended with jayathi jayathi in kamaas.
All the songs were impressive and enjoyable. Well done Nisha & Co - keep
it up.
The soundmax syndrome
Mostly all the young musicians sing with high pitch on top of their voice
and the sabhas have a soundmax syndrome for the day concerts as compared to
the evening concerts. MFAC is no exception for the soundmax syndrome - and
the damage the syndrome has done to the1.30 pm troup (sangeetha vasudevan -
badrinarayanan - mohanakrishnan) was very much felt. Soundmax + Sangeetha
vasudevan's top pitch was disastrous.
A request to Sangeetha madam : Mohana raagam (kapali) is a simple raaga
and why make it complicated? The derailments were conspicuous in many
places. If you had kept all the presentations simple - it could have yielded
very good results. All the 3 on the dais started running in ifferent
directions during every presentation - and i didnot follow all 3 at the same
time. The only consolation in the concert was thani aavardhan by
mohanakrishnan.
So, the success formula for you is : Keep it simple and straight -
deliver at normal pitch - do not complicate simple raagas unnecessarily.
Best of luck!
