Is Chennai open jinxed? Like every year, this
year too rain played a spoilsport at the SDAT tennis stadium ruining the
third day of play at the Chennai open 2009. Rain played hide and seek, as
the tournament officials did their hundred percent to dry the court over and
over again.
Like that was not enough, there came another big blow, as the world
number 5 Nikolay Davydenko, was officially ruled out of Chennai Open 2009.
The top seeded at the Chennai Open suffered a heel injury after his first
match win on Tuesday. He will have to miss the Australian open, which goes
off the mark soon after this.
The dejected crowd, sitting in the stands whiled away their time, praying
and cursing the rain. They had a reason to smile as their favorite tennis
stars entered the court, not with a racket, but with a cricket bat instead.
They tried their best to entertain and keep the crowd busy at the stands, by
hitting tennis balls at the most loudest crowd at the stadium.
First it was Vijay Amritraj and commentator Charu Sharma taking on to the
court, trying to hit hard, but missed out on many shots. That sure gave the
crowd a nice laugh. As almost half the crowd was up on their legs, cheering
and screaming for a shot towards their side, Leander Paes and Somdev dint
have to do much, but wave the bat at the crowd to get them wild.
Well cricket is sure the favorite game for all, as Somdev and Paes took
turns to bat and bowl to each other, and provide some good entertainment.
The crowd left with a happy note, forgiving the rain God which washed out
all their hope.
