One name sells
You have to hand it to Vikram. His aggressive marketing strategy is getting him results. Like it happened with his earlier films, it’s Vikram all the way where
‘Pithamagan’ is concerned! And if one hears reports of the director being a little ruffled by this Vikram-strategy, it’s not surprising. Surya, despite all the adulation he’s been getting from the media and audience for his brilliant performance in the same film - some say he even stole the scene from Vikram - is not going to town about it. The actor is cool as usual, modesty being his forte. But a little marketing wouldn’t harm you, will it,
Surya?

Sangita on a high
Sangita (aka Rasika) is basking in the praise she’s been getting for her performance as a ganja-seller in ‘Pithamagan’. But the actress wasn’t director Bala’s first choice for the role. Many popular actresses were approached, with Bala toying with the idea of casting heroines like Vijayshanti, Gayatri Jairam and Malavika. But for some reason or the other, that was one role which was left undecided till the end. Till the director chanced on Sangita and thought she was apt for the role. The actress, who started her career as the heroine of actors like Pandiarajan, was sadly neglected by the Tamil film industry. A good dancer, she spent the lean patch of her career performing at dance shows abroad with dance-troupes from here. Till the Telugu industry beckoned her and she managed to get meaty roles there. But with Bala’s film, she’s back in the reckoning. Hope this time round the industry doesn’t neglect her!

All talk, no action
Dhanush is back to work. The actor, who had suffered a fracture in his arm after being jostled by frenzied fans and was operated upon, has been recuperating at home after a week’s stay in hospital. And since lifting heavy weights (like his heroines) and dancing and strenuous action is out of the question for the time being, Dhanush is catching up on his dubbing work. It’s not long before he would be back shooting on the sets again. Meanwhile, his dates have gone haywire: the actor had committed to nearly a dozen projects. Now that would take some juggling around!

The Midas touch
Dhanush’s brother Selvaraghavan is busy shooting in Hyderabad for the AM Ratnam bi-lingual ‘7G Rainbow Colony’. And paired with debutant hero Ravi Krishna (son of Ratnam) is Sonia Agarwal and Shalini. The director spotted Shalini in the TV serial ‘Salanam’, where she plays the lead role, and found her suitable for the character. Knowing what Selvaraghavan has done to the careers of Sonia, Shalini can sure expect a re-entry into the big screen with this film.

Lucky three
Talking of Vikram, the hero, after a month’s vacation, is all set to act in his new film ‘Arul’, directed by Hari. The duo are teaming up after their successful combination in ‘Samy’. Shooting for the film will commence in December. ‘Arul’ will have Jyotika paired with Cheeyan. Jyotika had paired with Vikram in
‘Dhool’ earlier. The three of them – Hari, Vikram, Jyotika – getting together does raise expectations about the film.
