Actor Prithviraj debuted in Tamil films in a negative role in the Srikanth-Gopika starrer Kanaa Kandein directed by noted cinematographer K.V. Anand. The talented Prithviraj then graduated to doing lead roles in Tamil films and did many films including Mozhi, Satham Podathay and Parijatham. He also played another negative role in the Tamil version of ace director Maniratnam’s Raavanan in 2010.
The actor was reportedly approached by Malayalam director Rajesh Pillai to star in the Tamil remake of the Malayalam super-hit film Traffic. Radhika Sarathkumar’s Radaan Media is producing the film in Tamil. Ramya Nambeesan (remember her in Kullanari Kootam) plays the heroine. Prithviraj, who is a known face in Kollywood, was considered for the hero’s role and was approached.
Prithviraj, however, has refused to be part of the film saying that he was ‘too busy to commit himself’ to Tamil films at present. Following Prithviraj’s denial, Rajesh Pillai is now on the look out for a suitable hero to play the lead role in the Tamil version.
Sources close to Prithviraj say that the actor, who would soon be making his Bollywood debut as hero in a film opposite Rani Mukherjee, has been very busy with his call-sheet dates as he also has six other Malayalam films in various stages of production. “It’s not that Prithviraj doesn’t want to star in Tamil films; he just doesn’t have the dates,” these sources were at pains to insist.
