Ajith’s next film – Race among directors
September 24, 2015
The ‘short-cut’ to become a leading film director in Kollywood is to direct a film starring a ‘mass hero’ and making it a super-duper hit film. It’s not always that these newcomers and ‘small’ directors get to direct the so-called ‘established heroes’. As and when they do get such offers, they have got to make optimum use of it like Venkatprabhu did last year.
Venkatprabhu got the unexpected offer to direct actor Ajith in his last year’s Mankatha, which also turned out to be the actor’s landmark 50th film in his career. Mankatha became a super-hit film and made Venkat a ‘star’ director in no time. It happened earlier in Vishnuvardhan’s case too who became a frontline director after directing Ajith in Billa in 2007.
Ajith, who is ready with the theatrical release of his upcoming film Billa-2, would also be starring in the Tamil remake of the Bollywood hit film Race. However, Ajith’s next film after Billa-2 which is as yet untitled would be directed by Siva who directed Karthi in dual roles in last year’s super-duper hit Siruthai (a remake of a Telugu hit film).
Therefore, it has now become a huge subject of debate as to who would be directing Ajith in the Tamil version of Race. Insiders say that there has been a clamour among some leading directors to somehow land up the offer of directing the film which would be produced by Tennis ace Ashok Amirtharaj. Ajith is said to be thinking hard and might decide between either Vishnuvardhan or Venkatprabhu to direct the Tamil Race.
As a last-minute surprise, choreographer-turned-director Prabhudeva might also step into the shoes of director of the film!
