Popular Malayalam actor Jayaram has starred in many Tamil films. Though he has done some very good films in Tamil, Jayaram’s heart lies in Mollywood and he makes no attempt to hide that fact. The actor, who has played lead roles in films like Gokulam, Priyanka, Kolangal, Murai Maaman and Pathini, tried his hand at full-length comedy in Kamal-starres Thenali and Panchathanthiram.
In the past few years, though, he tried a variety of roles including some roles with negative shades in films like Saroja and Dhaam-Dhoom and was back to his comic best in the Ajith-starrer Aegan. Jayaram would be making a comeback of sorts in Tamil by playing a significant role in actor Vijay’s upcoming film Thuppakki directed by A.R. Murugadoss.
Jayaram had also starred in actor Prashanth’s Ponnar Shankar which sank at the box-office without a trace. Jayaram was hardly affected by the film’s failure as he had always treated Tamil films as ‘part-time affair’ and Malayalam films as ‘full-time affair’. Talking about his role in the film, Jayaram describes it as a ‘significant’ one.
“The film’s shooting has been halted due to lack of availability of field-staff because of the ongoing FEFSI strike. I hope the shooting schedule resumes soon,” says Jayaram. When queried as to whether he is playing a full-fledged villain in the film, he shot back saying “Would I ever be accepted by the audience in the role of a full-fledged villain? All I can say at this juncture is that the role is a pretty good one. That’s all!”
