Director Vasanthabalan, whose ‘Angaadi Theru’ courted box-office success as well as critical acclaim last year, is now making ‘Aravaan’ starring Aadhi (the ‘Eeram’ cop) in the lead. If Balan could make ‘Angaadi Theru’ in six crores, his ‘Aravaan’ is said to be taking almost twice the expenditure, Unit sources said.
Balan appears undeterred by the criticism that the hike in budget was due to the success of ‘Angaadi Theru’. Putting forth his point of view in the matter, Balan said, “Why it is that the directors alone are blamed often whenever a film doesn’t do well at the box-office? There are actually many spheres of activities involved in the making of a film.

“Many factors contribute to the success or failure of a film. Likewise, no one can have a fixed budget while making a film. The budget, more often than not, overshoots a little bit from the original estimate. When one wants to make a quality film and when hi-fi technology is involved, pruning down of the budget won’t help at all.
“As far as my style of film-making is concerned, I never opt for lavish and extravagant budget but do only what the sequence demands,” concluded Balan, protégé of director Shankar.
