Lakshmi Menon takes control of Gumki’s mahout
September 25, 2015
Kerala’s Lakshmi Menon is all set to make her debut as heroine in the upcoming film Gumki. The beautiful Malayalam girl is pairing up opposite another newcomer Vikram Prabhu, son of veteran actor Prabhu and grandson of the late and legendary Nadigar Thilagam Sivaji Ganesan. The film has been directed by Prabhu Solomon, who made last year’s highly acclaimed and successful Mynaa.

Unlike many debutants, Lakshmi doesn’t say she came to films by ‘accident’ but asserts that becoming an actress had been her childhood dream. “I loved films from a very young age and during my school-days, I dreamt of myself becoming a leading actress one day. I was obviously delighted when the offer to pair up opposite Prabhu in Gumki came my way,” says Lakshmi.
The film is about mahouts, who manage and control the tusker, the biggest of all the animals. Solomon has reportedly done a great deal of research work prior to starting work on the film and is intent to continue his successful streak as director. An 11-feet tall tusker plays an important role in the film. Prabhu has to master the art of guiding and maintaining an elephant to prepare himself for his character in the film.
As the shooting progressed in jungles, Prabhu has even started feeding the tusker and bathing it. He has even learnt how to administer medicines and ointment to elephant when it suffers bruises or injuries. Prabhu, however, is ‘controlled and managed’ wholly by Lakshmi Menon, who plays his interest in the film!
