The general body meeting of the Directors' Association was held at a five-star hotel in the city a few days back. Prior to the meeting, it was intimated to all concerned that it would actually be an 'emergency' meeting to discuss a specified agenda. It was decided to hold the meeting sans a few 'trouble-mongering' assistant directors, who are said to be in the habit of creating trouble at almost every meeting of the Association.
Trouble brewed but from unexpected quarter. Lyricist Yurekha, the director of the recent film 'Madurai Sambavam', sought to accuse Raama Narayanan, president of the Tamil Film Producers' Council (TFPC) and veteran director, of 'cheating.' him. Yurekha said that though Raama Narayanan had acquired the film's negative rights, he was yet to settle the Rs,50,000 that remained as his remuneration dues.
Besides demanding his share of money, Yurekha also said that he wasn't even fed properly by Rama Narayanan during the making of the film. Coming back to the main agenda of the meeting, the meeting was called to deliberate about the resignation threat meted out by its president Bharathiraaja, who wasn't amused when no one spoke in his favour in the face of recent attack on his residence by some goons.
Obviously, most of the time was taken up by the other members who somehow managed to convince Bharathiraaja to stay put in his present post.
