Kolkata, the eastern Metropolis of the country, is fast becoming the nightmare for Kollywood producers and directors. The city, which still loves traditional values and respects culture, has so far proved to be unlucky to Kollywood. Years ago, director Saran made his 'Jay Jay' and shot major portions of the film in Kolkata. The film fared badly at the box-office and seriously dented Madhavan's reputation as the 'eternal' lover-boy of Tamil films.

Prior to that, Prashant's 'Majnu' was also made in Kolkata. The film, despite a tight script, amazing musical score and fight sequences, didn't do as per expectations. After 'Jay Jay', many producers stayed away from Kolkata before director Cheran went there to make his dream film in 'Pokkisham' with Padmapriya in the lead. 'Pokkisham' turned out to be a box-office disaster.
Producer Nemichand Jabak, who produced 'Pokkisham', faced a rough time afterwards. Among the recent Deepavali releases, the Suriya-starrer 'Aadhavan' had a portion of it shot in Kolkata. True to Kollywood's sentiments, the film hasn't been doing exceptionally well though it's doing fairly well. This has made the production executives, producers, directors and even some artistes stay away from Kolkata!
