Ace director Bharathiraaja's son Manoj, who acted in a few films before marrying actress Nandana and settling into matrimonial bliss, returns to Kollywood in a new avatar. This time, Manoj would try his hand at a different profession, which his father has mastered over the past three decades or so. Manoj would be debuting as director and has chosen his father's Kamal-Sridevi starrer 'Sigappu Rojakkal', a horror film which released in early eighties, as his debut vehicle.

Manoj says that he was extremely fortunate in the sense that veteran producer K.R. Gangadharan, who produced the original version, has consented to produce the remake version of the film as well. In another similarity, if Maestro Ilaiyaraaja scored amazing hit songs in the original, his talented son Yuvan Shankar Raja would be scoring the music for the remake version.
Says Manoj: "The names of Dhanush, Simbu, Aarya and Jeevan are in contention to play the (negative) role made memorable by Kamal Haasan. As per modern day scenario, I would inculcate changes in the film's screenplay. I have earlier worked with leading directors like Maniratnam and Shankar as an assistant director. I'd put that experience and my father's invaluable guidance to best use in making this film."
