Jackpot,
the popular game show on Jaya TV, is celebrating its 250th
episode with a star-studded extravaganza. It is not often that a
TV episode, a weekly game show, can go on for years together,
that too with the same anchor and main sponsor. This unique
achievement has been made possible by Jaya TV's team,
essentially comprising its vice-presidents, Ranganathan, K P
Sunil, K Balaswaminathan and Muraliraman. Actress Kushboo said
on June 18 that she was privileged and honoured to perform the
role of an anchor for five years.
It is celebration time once again for Jackpot at 8 p.m. on
Sunday, June 24, when its 250th episode will hit the air..
Jaya TV viewers all over the
world will be treated to an extravaganza featuring actresses
Suhasini and Kastturi, actor Y G Mahendran and director Susi
Ganesan on the one side, facing another team comprising music
director Ramesh Vinayagam, singers Srinivas, Anoorada Sriram and
Swarnalatha, on the other. YGM reels out wisecracks while the
popular songs belted out by the singers will take viewers on a

Several
knowledge-based programmes and game shows have hit the small
screen. Most have faded away. But Jackpot has been an exception.
In all 250 episodes - 5 years - Winners of the prestigious RAPA
Award for Best Game Show in a regional language - the programme
has a long line of credits, says Ranganathan.
Sunil, speaking on behalf of
the channel and the producer of the show, Tellyzoom, said one of
the main reasons for the success of the programme was Kushboo's
presentation. Viewers identified her as an effervescent, bubbly
and cheerful person.
"She is an actress with an
universal appeal. Everybody likes her - young or old, man or
woman. Even those who want to hate her, love her," said
Muraliraman.
Balaswaminathan thanked
Tellyzoom. "This is an organisation which has been in TV
production for nearly 1S years now, with a range of several
highly successful game shows and quiz programmes to their
credit. The programme format is extremely viewer-friendly, and
appeals to all types of audiences - urban or rural, educated or
uneducated."
Sunil
said the content revolved around questions relating to everyday
life situations that touch everybody's lives, painstakingly
prepared by a team of dedicated researchers.
Another feature was Kushboo's
blouses, designed by Srinivasan, which are the talk of the town,
Sunil said, pointing out that they have become fashion
statements in their own right. "Tailors across the state are now
trying to meet orders for similar designs to satisfy their
customers," he added.
Kushboo said when she began the
programme five years ago, she was pushed into it though she
could hardly speak Tamil. However, with the support of her
husband Sundar and others in the Jaya team, she worked on her
Tamil and today she said she was confident about the programme.
