Sundar
C Babu, who has foot-tapping numbers like 'Vaazha Meenukkum…' and 'Kathazha
Kannala…' to his credit, manages to bring perfect Tamil dialect out of
his singers, most of whom hail from Mumbai. This observation was made by
a keen journalist, who asked Sundar as to how does he manage this.
Explains Sundar, "I compose tunes and hand it over to my singers. I
don't let lyricists get away from merely writing the lyrics and make it
a point to ask them to be present at the recording theatre when their
song(s) are recorded. It's the job of the lyricists to watch if the
singers pronounce the lyrics neatly and without mistakes. In case of
mistakes, the lyricists are free to correct the singers on their own."
"This ensures that the Tamil words and dialect are not distorted and
are pronounced as they are. By having the lyricists at the recording
spot, 'Tamil' is saved to the maximum extent possible' says Babu but
adds with regret that he feels hurt when he hears other saying that the
music of 'Nadodigal' very much resembles Saiskumar's previous film 'Subramaniapuram',
for which James Vasanthan scored the music.
Babu's dilemma is how to make the general public aware that it's not
Vasanthan but it is he who scored the music for 'Nadodigal'.
