Director Madesh, who directed Vijay's 'Madhura' which was a very important hit film at that stage of Vijay's career, made many efforts afterwards to get in touch with Vijay. He even gave Vijay Rs.25 lakhs more than the originally fixed fee, after the stupendous success of the film. The out-of-the-way gesture didn't appear to have any effect on Vijay, who reportedly continued to avoid him.
Madesh then directed 'Captain' in the film Arasangam and then got in touch with Vijay again but the response was the same stony silence that he got earlier. Deciding that he had had enough, Madesh reportedly met Ajit and narrated a story to him. As luck would have it, Ajit seemed to like the story very much and immediately gave his consent.
A relieved Madesh has named the film 'Thalaivan' and has started the preparatory work for the shooting with renewed vigour. Madesh, known to shoot songs in scenic and attractive locations, is reportedly planning to fly abroad towards the month end to choose suitable locations for Ajit and a top heroine to sing duets there
