Writing
is the most
critical
input in a
movie, but
the blind
spot is that
not many
actually are
aware of
what exactly
screen
writers do,
and in
Indian
movies the
director
ends up
writing the
script as
well as
directing
the movie.
When screen
writing and
direction
are two
separate
compartments
then Indian
movies will
also par
internationally
for we have
no lesser
talent.

The
legendary
hero of
world
cinema,
Mr.Kamal
Hassan in an
amalgamation
with the
Indian
Institute of
Technology,
Madras has
come up with
an
international
workshop on
screen-writing,
which is
also the
foremost of
its kind in
South India.
The workshop
is from May
29th to June
3rd.
The
workshop
will
culminate
with a
two-day
seminar with
some of the
best
screenwriters
and
filmmakers
from around
the world.
This bold
and unique
endeavor of
Raajkamal
Films
International
and IIT,
Madras will
touch up on
the basics
of
screen-writing.
The
workshop
will be
conducted by
K. Hariharan,
Anjum
Rajabali and
Atul Tiwari.
Convener of
the workshop
- Padmashree
Kamal Hassan
himself will
handle a few
sessions.
At the
inaugural
function
Kamal Hassan
referred to
them as the
three
musketeers
and the
heroes of
the
workshop.
"These are
the people
who will
guide the
selected 250
students
through the
baby step
for this is
what I
missed in my
life and has
made me fall
several
times" he
dispensed
his emotion.
The
workshop
will also
educate
these
students on
short films
and
introduce
the basic
elements of
screen-writing.
This
workshop got
a startling
number of
applicants
of 1600,
while only
250 were
selected.
The basic
criterion of
the
selection
process was
how close is
the student
in making
the first
movie. It is
about the
young mind
(Based on
ideas and
experience)
and not the
age. Also,
they didn't
take people
who have
already done
movies.
Kamal
Hassan is
dedicating
the seminar
to his dear
old friend
Ananthu, who
first
introduced
him to world
cinema.
