'Surangani.. Surangan...' is the mother of all gana songs that has been echoing in all the nook and corners of Tamil Nadu for the past more than thirty years. The famous song was composed and sung by 'Ceylone' Manohar from Sri Lanka. Though this song wasn't art of any music album or a film, the popularity of this song was something unimaginable. Till now, this song is an integral part of most cultural functions in colleges.
Veteran director S.A. Chandrasekaran has added this song as an 'item' number in his next flick 'Pandhayam' starring Nithin Sathya, Sindhu Tolani and Prakashraj in the lead. SAC has taken permission from Manohar and has turned this song into a duet picturised on the lead pair of Nithin Sathya and Sindhu Tolani and a bevy of dancers. Ashokraj took care of the choreography.
The song has been shot in college campuses, IT parks, industries, poverty-ridden hutments and in Chennai's crowded streets and everyone from school and college students, casual labour, construction workers and children have all lip-synched the song.
Music director Vijay Anthony is quite excited about this re-mix song and says the song would be on everyone's lips once the audio is released. There are a couple of 'item' numbers in the film featuring the 'hot' Meghana Naidu (of 'Vaitheesvaran') and Rani, who shot to fame with the 'O podu' number from Vikram's 'Gemini'.
Srinivas is the cinematographer and Harsha is the editor of 'Pandhayam'. Jackson will be the art director while Sundar will be the stunt master.
Pandhayam will soon be at a theatre near you!
