Cast And Crew
Debutant director Krishnan Seshadri Komadam's 'Mudhal Mudhal Mudhal Varai' (M3V), claiming to be the first-ever 'metro-movie' in Tamil, is aimed apparently at urban audience and deals with the emotions, relations, dreams, and aspirations of today's educated upper class youth living in metros.
Krishnan's way of narration and storytelling has some freshness. Instead of revolving around a storyline, he goes on depicting characters and incidents involving them. The story is told in the process of following the characters and their interactions.
Hayagreevan (Satyajit), an ad man, dreams of becoming a filmmaker. His sweetheart Sindhu (Anuja Iyer) suffering from a chronic disease tells him that they won't get married unless he made a film of his own. The rest of the film, obviously, deals with whether Hayagreevan succeeded in his dreams and married Sindhu.
The most striking aspect, however, is the way the lives of the upper-middle class families are shown. The dialogues are very casual and practical; Krishna certainly does deserve kudos for setting them up in a natural manner.
Cinematography by Bowsia Fathima and music by Aslam Mustafa are the strong pillars on which Krishna has built his debut 'castle'. The way he has handled and extracted work from newcomers is quite admirable.
The film's advertisement claims that the 'end' is unexpected; we might as well add that the 'end' is absurd too.
The film succeeds in bringing out a dimension of the deluge of colours the urban life is more often associated with. Along with it, come the dreams and aspirations of the many upper class urban youth, shown in an interesting and likeable manner. Still, something is missing that doesn't allow it to be named a 'complete' film.
The talk that 'this film is only for Multiplex audience' too sounds absurd. The audience simply love and patronize good films (didn't 'Paruthiveeran' and 'Veyil', supposedly with rural backdrop, have a good run at Inox multiplex?).
To sum up, M3V impresses in parts and fails to emerge as a wholesome movie.
