Young
director
Arivazhagan,
ex protégé
of director
Shankar, has
to be
applauded
for making a
film that
has
unfamiliar
story with
interesting
twists and
turns.

Eeram, a
crime thriller
that steals down
into a horror
flick, lives up
to the
expectations.
True to the
title, the movie
has Eeram
(wetness) as its
basic element
and has made the
feeling of
wetness
spreading
through out the
narrative.

Eeram opens
with the death
of Ramya (Sindhu
Menon), who is
said to have
committed
suicide. But DSP
Vasudevan (Aadhi),
ex-lover of
Ramya, smells
rat and decides
to look at the
death in
different
angles. The rays
of suspicion
fall on Ramya's
husband Bala (Nandha)
and her
neighbours.
Mysterious
murders continue
to haunt the
apartment and
hence the
problem gets
intensified. Vasu's meticulous search unearths some bizarre
things and the truth is quite shocking.
Debutant director Arivazhagan succeeds in sustaining the interest of
the audience. He has handled the murder sequences, investigation
process, and the flash back sequences well. The unfolding of the mystery
comes as a shocking. But the core issue of the 'morality' of the heroine
has not been detailed in the script. Also the movie goes wayward once
the mystery behind the killings is revealed. The lengthy second half
mars the effect to some extent.
However, good show by the star cast, cameraman, and the director
makes the movie watchable.
The movie is technically rich thanks to impeccable cinematography by
Manoj Paramahamsa.
Adhi, who enacted the ruffian in Mirugam, has wonderfully transformed
to portray a tough cop. His looks and body language are apt and
credible. Sindhu Menon too is impressive while Saranya Mohan is
competent. Nandha gets a role with shades and the actor does it with
ease.
Music director Thaman, one of the boys in Shankar's Boys, has given a
background score that fits the thriller. Aruivazhagan has made a movie
that is rich in substance. Had the length in the second half been
trimmed the movie would have been far better.
Eeram has come as a big relief amidst a lot of routine stuff in Tamil
film scenario.
