Vedigundu
Murugesan bumps
into Nachiyar (Jyothirmayi),
a police
constable who
breaks into
tears at every
opportunity. She
develops love
towards
Murugesan after
realizing his
golden heart.
Kodanchan (Ranish), brother of local (comical) dada Low Sugar Ganesan
(Veera), rapes Ponni and gets beaten by Murigesan. He accidentally gets
killed and the blame falls on Murugesan. Now Ganesan wants to avenge for
his brother’s death. Meanwhile, Ponni is carrying a child as the result
of Kodanchan’s act.
The rest of the movie deals with what happens to Ponni and how
Murugesan saves her without getting bogged down by Ganesan and his
henchmen.
Director Moorthy has done well in presenting the film with humour
through out the fare. He hasn’t chosen any different story but given a
different treatment, which is appealing. But he could have made it a
better film, had he reduced the clichéd scenes involving rape and its
aftermath.
Pasupathy’s character lacks credibility. He speaks lot of intelligent
stuff about everything under the sun. Then he changes track to humour.
Sometimes he looks like a powerful action hero. The next scene you
witness him as an ordinary man, who wants to run away from the villain.
Despite these anomalies, Pasupathy has got his body language and
dialogue delivery right. He has shown his flair for comedy but his stiff
and serious facial expressions do not cooperate to his efforts to make
us laugh.
Vadivel as Alert Arumugam (Vadivel) who cleverly cheats the people
makes us burst into laughter in many scenes. Jyothirmayi portrays an
average lady police constable with ease.
Deepa as the mentally-challenged girl is perfect. Her portrayal of a
mentally ill girl evokes genuine sympathy.
Dhina’s music and background are loud and jarring. But he has come
out with a couple of melodies sung by K.J. Yesudass and Bombay Jayashree.
The story and the script of Vedigundu Murugesan are not new. But the
treatment laced with unmistakable humour works in favor of the movie.
Verdict: Enjoyable!
