Vamanan Movie Review

Cast: Jai, Santhanam, Priya, Lakshmi Rai, Sampath, Rahman, Urvashi Direction: I. Ahmed
Produced by: R Ravendran Music: Yuvan Shankar Raja
Cinematography: Aravindh Krishna

VamananVamanan, an incarnation of Maha Vishnu is short yet powerful. Debutant director Ahmed’s tries to show an ordinary man rising to the occasion and tame the bad elements. The idea is ok even though it is not a new theme for Tamil cinema. How he has managed to execute this idea is what we have to ponder over.

The story starts in a different note when a helicopter with a camera goes wayward while shooting an ad film featuring the voluptuous Lakshmi Rai in the beach. Next scene moves to an incident where a minister (Delhi Ganesh) is killed by his colleague Anbu Chezhiyan (Sampath) and the incident is captured by the heli-camera accidentally. The murder scene makes the movie looks a routine one but still you feel that something different would happen.

But the director disappoints by running the same path of most of the commercial movies. The tape is found by the ad film director and he is promptly killed by the henchmen of minister Sampath, who gets the help from the police. However, the director brings a twist by making the tape go absconded. Sampath keeps on searching for the tape in connivance of the police.

Anand (Jai) comes to Chennai with a dream of making it big in the tinsel town as an actor. He takes refuge in his friend’s (Santhanam) house, who works as a cameraman in a satellite channel.

Anand comes across one John (Rahman), whose antics impress him. He gets close to him. Meanwhile, Anand meets Divya ( Priya) and falls for her. He also comes across Pooja (Lakshmi Rai), a model and befriends her. All these friendships put him in trouble and he gets trapped in a murder case. Now the police hunt for him and his lover hates him. He comes to know about the true colour of John and the mystery behind the murder. Finally he finds the tape and manages to escape the wrath of all powerful villain group and the police force.

Directr Ahmed has managed to present the story with twists and turns and lot of humourous sequences. The first half in particular, is enjoyable thanks to the hilarious show by Urvashi and Santhanam.
