Gnabagangal Movie Review

Cast: Pa. Vijay, Sridevika Music: James Vick Direction: Jeevan Story and screenplay: Pa. Vijay

It is common to see lyricists writing romantic verses for films but lyricist acting as a romantic person is quite uncommon. Gnabagangal gives us a chance to witness this rare occurrence, as young lyricist Pa Vijay has made his debt as actor and script writer.

Gnabagangal

The movie is said to be based on a real life incident in Vijay’s friend’s life. The movie, true to its title (meaning memories), compiles the romantic moments of a poet.

Kathir (Pa Vijay) wins a National Award for best lyricist. Immediately after receiving the honour from the hands of President of India, he sets off for a personal trip. He meets Meera (Sridevika), his ex-girl friend, who is married according to her father’s wish and settled near Delhi. Not aware of Kathir’s rise as lyricist, she receives him well to her house.

Meera desperately hides him the fact that his husband had died and she is leading apoor life. However, Kathir finds that she is in a miserable condition. He is shocked to see her in that state. Kathir returns to Delhi to attend a felicitation function organised for him by Delhi Tamil Sangam.

Meera comes to Delhi with a motive to end her life. But she gets to know that her former lover has now become a great poet, celebrated by the people. She also knows his heart and changes her mind and rushes to meet him. What happens next forms the climax.

Vijay gets to do almost himself in the movie. Vijay fits the role but he lacks the acting talents to make the role closer to our heart. Sri Devika as Meera looks pleasant and acts well in the scenes when she interacts with her lover in her house.

Music composer James Vick has come up with a coupe of catchy songs. Director Jeevan has managed to ensure that the movie stick to its theme and serve the purpose.

Vijay’s tribute to his friend is a noble attempt but the narrative is full of predictable developments and hence the movie fails to appeal. The script lacking novelty and excitement seems to be the major culprit.

lets just say the lyricist should stick to songs. both actors had trouble carring out their parts effectively and in the end the story had a weak plot.

Pa Vijay made many wrong choices in this movie. This being the first movie, he should have gone with good heroine, good director, etc. Sridevika looks like vijay's sister. Autograpah movie was very good in the hands of good director. Director chosen by vijay did not do good job.
