A visual spectacle coming alive this weekend

When was the last time you saw or ever heard about the stories of Ghatodgaja or Pathala Bhairavi? Remember the famous song 'Kalyana Samayal Sadam' by G.V.Rao where Ghatodgaja gulps down ladoos after ladoos?

Nippon Paint and evam brings together the famous 'Surabhi' group from Hyderabad who will be performing Maya Bazaar and Pathala Bhairavi on April 25th and 26th at Music Academy.

A visual spectacle coming alive this weekend

Briefing the media on a press conference held at the Savera Hotel recently, Karthik Kumar, Co-founder and Director of evam said, "We are proud to bring down a 125year old theatre group called Surabhi to Chennai. My group evam once got a chance to see Maya Bazaar and Pathala Bhairavi at Ranga Shankara, Bangalore and we just watched the whole play with awe and admiration. Though it was a Telugu drama, we enjoyed, clapped and saw it with so much of innocence. That is when I decided to bring them down to Chennai and let the Chennaities also have a feast of watching these plays." He also confessed that there is so much evam also must learn from Surabhi.

In these two plays, one can see ladoos and arrows playing the vanishing act, Narada descending from the sky and all these things will be a true attraction to children. Nippon Paint and evam assures that language will not be a barrier at all as one can understand scenes through their acting and depiction itself.

Surabhi theatre is famous for tricks, rare techniques and special effects which will bring both magic and mythology onto the stage. The interesting fact about Surabhi is that, the whole theatre group is one family. Right from a baby born to a 92 year old man, everybody will be on stage performing.

Says Sunil Vishnu.K, Co-founder and Director of evam, "These plays are purely based on Indian folklore and mythology and would be a summer attraction for children as they would also learn the heritage and art that these stories have imparted so far. One can see a whole cinema on a stage with actors coming from the same community."

Ramakanth V.Akula, Vice President of Nippon Paint said that Colors and hues are what they are always associated with and they are indeed happy to be a part of this visual treat which will take the city by storm.
