March 28, 8.30 to 9.30 pm will see parts of the world plunged in
voluntary darkness. This “Save the Earth” endeavor has a goal of getting 1
billion people to switch off their lights as part of a global vote. Unlike a
typical election, the country you're from is irrelevant. VOTE EARTH is a
global call to action for every individual, business, and community.
So how can you join in?
Simple, switch off lights for one hour this March 28 and join the cause
to save the Earth.
The Vote Earth website also has banners, wallpapers, badges, signs and
lots more that you can use to show your support and spread the word about
Earth Hour. See here for more on this.
Download posters, put a link on your blog, shout it from the rooftops,
but most of all take a pledge to use less energy and cause less pollution.
Make a small beginning in your home and office.
Here is how you can join the green bandwagon.
- Switch
off all
extra lights
and fans in
the house.
-
Keep windows
open and
curtains
drawn to
make use of
natural
light and
circulation.
-
Don't leave
electronic
gadgets on
stand by.
Plug the
devices into
a power
strip and
put off the
switch when
the gadgets
aren’t in
use.
- Use
CFL bulbs.
They last
longer and
consume less
energy.
-
Walk or
cycle when
you have to
cover short
distances.
And,
carpool.
So go ahead
and exercise
your right to
vote. Flip that
switch off!
