Almost 10,000 citizens of Chennai had gathered near the Gandhi statue at Marina beach recently to show the cohesion to the victims of the recent Mumbai blast. The whole event was organized and led by a group Citizens for change. Mohan Raman a well known serial artist says that "India is not a country that has faced such a terror in her history. Even Ramayana and Mahabaratha were for a good cause and ended peacefully. But now these terrorist attacks have brought in a fear in everybody's life and some steps like this have to be taken as a citizen of India".
Citizens for change had organized and gathered people to participate and pledge their support towards perpetuating the fundamental rights of every citizen and for a peaceful life. A minute of silence was observed for the late, injured and affected soul of Mumbai blast followed by floral tribute and lighting candles for them. Eminent personalities from various strands like Medical, Legal, Media, Industry, Business, Entertainment etc were present to support the forum.
The public were let to register themselves as a member and sign on the board that was kept to open for everyone to post their view about this anti terrorist movement. This gave a lot of enthusiasm to the participants and members.
Mathiayagan, a NCC Master says that "It's better late than never! I am glad that chennaiites have come up with such an initiative. It is not only the politician who has to take up responsibility but even common people can make a change towards it. I really appreciate the sprit of each and every one of them who are present here".
