Far away from the strains of Carnatic tunes, and Kancheevaram-clad maamis, exists another face of Chennai that takes shape every fortnight in the form of Hash House Harriers. This is a group that meet every two weeks, work themselves out through long walks and jogs. And once they're suitably sweaty, they unwind over a chilling session with unlimited beer.
Consisting of an eclectic mix of both expat and Indian community, Hash Harriers has a strong family focus in all their gatherings. In other words, this club also gives an opportunity of meeting and socialising with people from diverse backgrounds.
There are two different trails: the walker's trail is about 5 km, while the jogger's trail works out to be 8 km. There is no entrance fee except that you have to buy your own beer and food at the end. Occasionally, the event is sponsored by a company.
So, if you're new to the city, Hash House Harriers might be a great way to meet people and network with them.
